STORY VOYAGE AT BPL
You Can Create A Story!!! With the power of words travel wherever your imagination goes or tell of true happenings that you know. STORY VOYAGE AT BPL For ages 4-18 REGISTER * IMAGINE * WRITE * RETURN Register beginning June 1st at BPL. Imagine your story, you choose the topic. Write your story, including art if you’d like. Return your finished story to BPL by 6pm, Monday August 15, 2022. Story Voyage at BPL was inspired by the story of an 8 year-old who wrote his own book and put it on the shelf of his library. Watch this captivating video by KTVB.
If you don't see the book Stories will be added to the
Benzonia Public Library collection for patrons to check-out and enjoy at home! Everyone will be able to read the stories of the Story Voyage authors who participated and turned in their stories by the deadline of 2pm, Saturday, July 30, 2022. Be sure to make a copy of your book before turning it in. It will become part of the BPL collection and would not be returned to you. |
WRITING YOUR STORY with Ellen Airgood Wednesday, June 22 3:00-4:30 pm In depth Q&A with Ellen Airgood, a published author that has been writing since the 4th grade. You can use your imagination to write fiction or write a true story about your experiences. Either way you will learn simple techniques to enhance your story and develop your theme and characters. |
ILLUSTRATING YOUR STORY with Connie & Jimmy McLaren Wednesday, June 29 3:00-4:30 pm Former art teacher Connie McLaren joined by local artist Jimmy McLaren will lead you on an artistic journey. Learn quick and creative art techniques to bring your characters and settings to life. Focus is on using colored pencils and ink. |

CHARTING YOUR COURSE:
- Register at BPL-ages 4-18: You will receive your very own journal and a pack of colored pencils you will use to create your own Story Voyage.
- Let your imagination sail until you discover the treasure of the story you want to write. You are the writer, pick the story you want to share. Will your story be Fiction, Non-fiction, or Short stories?
- Fiction? Your imagination is full sail, make up whatever you want.
- Non-fiction? True happenings, write about the who, what, where, when, and why of the story you write.
- Short stories? These can be either true happenings or fiction where you imagine the stories. Maybe pick a theme, like a person, animal, place, or thing. Write your short stories based on the theme you pick.
- Art can help tell a story and make it more interesting. Create drawings wherever you want to help enhance the story.
- Length? You pick how long your story is. You can fill the entire journal or only part of it. You choose how long your Story Voyage will be.
- Travel Tips: Make sure you think of and leave space for these important items before starting your journey.
- Title: How do you want the cover to look? This is where you will write the story title, your name, and any art you want to include.
- About the Author: Write your name and a little bit about yourself.
- Contents Page: Choose a title for each chapter or short story then fill out the contents page with this information.
- Enjoy the journey as you write your story!
- As your voyage comes to an end make sure you clean up any items left to do including the title, about the author and contents pages.
- Turn your story in at Benzonia Public Library by 2pm Saturday, July 30, 2022. Your story will be added to the BPL collection, so it would not be returned to you.
- Be sure to turn in the Story Voyage evaluation sheet. These help BPL plan future programs.
- Congratulate yourself on a job well done.
