Intern Coordinator Ferd de Guia graduated from Benzie Central in 1995 and has returned to teach high school math. The project appeals to him because after being away from Benzie County for 15 years, he thought this would be a great way to reconnect and give something back to the community.
AuSable Kreiner is a senior at Benzie Central high school who plans to attend college in the fall of 2020. The Remembering Benzie project is important because it teaches people how to learn from the past so we don’t repeat it. It also gives us an inside look and unique perspective on others’ lives. Finn McLaren is a senior at Benzie Central High School. Finn is planning to go to college, but he hasn't quite decided where or what major. I love this project because I love this community! I'm so excited to unveil some of the amazing stories and traditions that Benzie has! Melia Lorenz is a senior at BCHS. After graduation, Melia hopes to attend a four-year university and double major in photojournalism and acting. She would also like to do some traveling in the meantime. I’m extremely excited about this project because I truly love where I come from and I think our little town deserves more recognition. I hope to capture the beauty of this place along with the stories that haven’t been told yet. Reeve Katt is a junior who plans on going to university after graduation- even though that’s a longer time off than the rest of her (senior) teammates. Remembering Benzie is important to me because if we don’t learn from the past, we are doomed to repeat it- and what better way to learn from it then to listen to what the people who were there have to say? Intern Intro Short Videos
|
Remembering Benzie student intern positions were open to all Benzie Central High School sophomores, juniors and seniors. Interested students needed to demonstrate the following: An interest in videography, oral history, and our community. The ability to stay organized and work effectively with others. Affection for Benzie County and those who live here.
After going through a hiring process in which each student was required to submit either an essay or short video expressing their interest in the project, our hiring team also contacted teachers for recommendations. The hiring team, which consisted of our student coordinator and the project trainers, made final selections.
We could not be more pleased with the interns we have had the privilege to work with over the past couple of years! There is something very special about collecting stories of the past with students of the future!
