TRAINING PROJECTS:
During training interns were tasked with writing an interview protocol, conducting an interview and filming B-roll (secondary footage to splice in). They then selected a story from this 40 minute interview to highlight and edit into a 2 minute clip while adding B-roll. Each student was to work from the same base interview and develop a 2 1/2- 3 minute "clip" that incorporated their b-roll and told a part of the story that resonated with them. Year 1 followed this process while Year 2 was a bit different due to COVID restrictions. Details of the projects and videos for both years are shown below.

McLaren Project: Year 2
Year 2 training for the interns was a bit different due to COVID restrictions. Some of our previously in person training was virtual and some training was limited. However, the students were able to meet in person for a full day to work on sharpening their interview skills.
During training interns were tasked with writing an interview protocol, conducting an interview and filming B-roll. Next they selected a story from this 40 minute interview to highlight and edit into a 2 minute clip while adding B-roll. Because of limited time, instead of each intern creating their own video, they worked together to edit a short video using the skills they had just learned. The guinea pig for training was Remembering Benzie Project manager and Benzonia Public Library director, Amanda McLaren. We have included both the full interview and the edited video. Here is their completed project so you may compare. It was a big job well done to create the short video. Amanda, McLaren: Edited 2 minute clip.

Bechler Project: Year 1
During the Year 1 training the interns had their first chance to film b-roll, incorporating it into their film and editing. Interns developed questions and took turns interviewing local artist and Benzie County Central School art teacher, Corey Bechler. After filming Mr. Bechler the students shot their own b-roll. Each of the students worked from the same base interview and were developed a 2 1/2- 3 minute "clip" that incorporated their b-roll and told a part of the story that resonated with them. Here are the students very first attempts at editing.
