Leola Richard is a junior at BCHS. She plans on attending a 4-year college after high school and is leaning towards a degree in international business. The Remembering Benzie Project really spoke to her because of her natural love of history. She's always loved learning about the past and thinks there is nothing better than a good story!
Liam A. Jones Tabora was born in Siguatepeque, Honduras March 3rd, 2005. His parents are Michael Jones and Carolina Tabora. Born from an American father and Honduran mother, he lived in Honduras until the age of 3 and moved to Michigan on July 7th, 2008 establishing in Benzie county, where his father grew up. He has always been in love with reading and writing stories. Shortly after his arrival, he enrolled in the Head Start Program in Honor, MI where his favorite pastime was drawing stories he would have his teacher write from him. He attended Betsy Valley Elementary School from Kindergarten to 5th grade to then transfer to Platte River Elementary School for 6th grade and Benzie Central Schools for Middle and High School. Currently, in the 10th grade, reading and writing continue to be of great interest to him as he aspires to become a journalist or a writer in the future. He enjoys music and sports, practicing Violin since elementary school, football, wrestling, and track. He is a big fan of movies and theater and had participated and performed rolls at Lakeside Shakespeare youth workshops and Summer Assembly Summer Children's Operetta as well as his local church. He is a very active member of his church's youth group and local Boy Scouts troop 10 where he is a Star Scout and the Senior Patrol Leader. Olivia Bailey is a junior at Benzie Central High School. She plans to attend college after she graduates. The Remembering Benzie Project is important to her because she loves Benzie County and hopes to connect with and give back to the community. Olivia can't wait to help share some of the stories and experiences of Benzie county. Vertical Divider

Remembering Benzie student intern positions were open to all Benzie Central High School sophomores, juniors and seniors. Interested students needed to demonstrate the following: An interest in videography, oral history, and our community. The ability to stay organized and work effectively with others. Affection for Benzie County and those who live here.
After going through a hiring process in which each student was required to submit either an essay or short video expressing their interest in the project, our hiring team also contacted teachers for recommendations. The hiring team, which consisted of our student coordinator and the project trainers, made final selections.
We could not be more pleased with the interns we have had the privilege to work with over the past couple of years! There is something very special about collecting stories of the past with students of the future!
