Finn McLaren: True Spirit of Volunteering
Finn has always lived in Benzie County and has loved every second of it. He is a senior at Benzie Central High School and has been involved in the Boy Scouts of America, the National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America, plays, musicals, and many community service projects. He plans to go to Michigan Technological University and major in Ecology and Environmental Science. From there he plans to travel a bit and them come back to Michigan and get a job as a biological field researcher.
Finn has been a member of the Friends of the Benzonia Public Library for 5 years. During that time Finn has been an active volunteer at the library in various roles including: Founder of the Guild of Makers, puppeteering Boomer the Rat in puppet shows, assisting with Pete the Cat visits at many events, Lego master, craft helper, child wrangler, and student intern in the Remembering Benzie Oral History Project.
Finn’s biggest library project to date was his selection for his Eagle Scout Project. Finn decided to build and place 2 Little Free Libraries in the community, collaborating with the Friends to ensure that the libraries stay well stocked. The Little Free Libraries can be found at the Benzonia Dog Park and at Honor Building Supply.
All in all, Finn loves the time that he has spent in his community, and would like to thank it for all of the support that the community has given him.
Finn has been a wonderful Friend to BPL. Giving generously of his time and talents, he is always happy to help with whatever needs doing. Congratulations to Finn on completing his Eagle Scout project. We wish him well in his adventures at Michigan Technological University.

Eryk Feala - Troop 10, Eagle Scout Project
A huge "THANK YOU" to Eryk Feala, BSA Troop 10, for refurbishing the front porchof the Mills Community House as his Eagle Scout project. Eryk did a fantastic job coordinating and implementing much needed repairs and painting. Stop by to check it out. If you see Eryk, be sure to tell him "Thanks" for a job well done!

My name is Eryk L. Feala and I started with the Boy Scouts in September 2009 by joining Troop 10 which is chartered in Blaine Christian Church of Arcadia. I have progressed through all the ranks and am now a Life Scout completing my requirements for Eagle Scout. I'm graduating from BCHS this year and have also completed a 2 year course of Public Safety at TBA. I have played football and wrestled for 2 seasons at BCHS. I am currently an officer in the Order of the Arrow, vice chief of Programs; a Boy Scouts Honor Society which helps our BSA camps. This summer I will be working at Cole Canoe base as a Senior Patrol Leader and taking training as a River Ranger and experienced ATV rider which should be great fun. In July I will be going on a BSA high adventure to Juneau, Alaska for 2 weeks, hiking a glacier, fishing for salmon, and doing some service work on our National parks.
I chose the Mills Community House Project because I thought it would be a challenging project that had a lot of elements to do for competition. Painting, sanding, installation of newel posts, installation of bench, restoration of cement work, and lots of opportunity to show leadership and responsibility. Also, the Mills Community House is a public building and would make a visible impact on the community and let them know what Boy Scouts are all about; Service to our community. Eryk L. Feala |
