Nicole St. Laurent
Nicole St. Laurent: Welcome to BPL!
Ahhh, there's no place like home! My extended family has resided in Benzie County since 1903 and it feels more like home to me than anywhere else I have ever lived. Having spent my summers here throughout my life, it was always my dream to return fulltime. That dream became reality in 2021 when I, along with my husband and two teen sons, moved into our family home on Crystal Lake that dates back to 1933. Since arriving, we have sought connection within our community. I am honored to be the incoming Treasurer for the Friends of BPL and, when offered a position working at Benzonia Public Library, it seemed like a perfect fit!
I love reading (of course), knitting, woodworking, gardening, cooking & canning, and hobby homesteading. I devoured the Little House on the Prairie series as a young girl and Laura's teachings have never left me. I have a background in teaching English as a second language, working with beginning readers, and as a reading remediation tutor specializing in dyslexia tutoring. I have also taught art appreciation and art classes in both public schools and homeschool co-ops. My greatest joy has come from homeschooling my sons throughout their schooling careers and guiding them both to be voracious learners. My oldest is currently in college and my younger will graduate high school next fall. I am excited to be a resource for our local homeschooling community!
Many thanks to the other BPL staff members who have already made me feel like one of them, as well as the patrons and community members who have welcomed me and been patient as I train on the library system. It is a joy to get to know each of you and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the future. I encourage you to stop in and say hi!
